The National Association of Mongolian Agricultural Cooperatives /NAMAC/ is a non-governmental organization which was re-organized by its First General Assembly in January 1992. The Supreme Council of Agricultural Cooperatives the precursor of NAMAC was founded in 1967 and played a significant role in increasing agricultural production efficiency, improving living standard of rural population and developing educational and cultural welfare. The establishment of association of agricultural cooperatives /negdel/ opened new opportunities not only in cooperative /negdel/ development also in intensifying economy and cultural development as well as it increased the production capacity of the country. Since cooperatives /negdels/, inter-cooperative /negdel/ factories and other cooperatives were merged into an association, the organization structure was tightened and democratic management principle followed for its activities.
NAMAC re-organized during the performing process of centrally planned system started to follow new principle regarding the international standard. But still referring to the traditonal acheivements of former association, cooperatives merge into the provincial branches which join with national association on voluntary base and it as one big unit works with a motto of "Consolidate Our Strength"

Be a national body to support the cooperation and mutual trust among the rural producers and to promote the favorable environment for cooperative development.

Operational outcomes
As for 2007, we have 19 branch associations in 19 out of 21 aimags /provinces/,
7 tier cooperatives and more than 404 primary cooperatives engaged in
multi-purpose operations in 270 soums throughout the country. The annual sale
income of member cooperatives range from 10 million to 1.5 billion and the
increased profitability enables to distribute annual dividend of 100.0-35000.0
thousand tugrug to their members.
The member cooperatives of NAMAC comprises more than 100 thousand individual
members of 38 thousand households throughout Mongolia and about 200 thousand
people benefit from the cooperative activity. The cooperatives deliver consumer
goods of 4 billion tugrugs and
annual gross production by around 210 small and medium-scale ventures engaged
in 20 types of businesses reaches more than 1 billion tugrug to earn sale
income of 9.5-10.5 billion tugrugs.
International and domestic cooperation
NAMAC keeps relationship with national organizations of some countries from Asia, Europe and America. It is a member of International Cooperative Agricultural Organization /ICAO/ from 1998 and holds membership of East Asian Agricultural Organization Council /EAOC/ since 1997.
NAMAC actively participates in joint implementation of projects with national and international charity, research institutions and other organizations and at the same time it exchanges experience among those organizations .
For last years, NAMAC develops its cooperation with numbers of international organizations namely JICA, ADB, GTZ, TACIS and Agriculture Development Fund etc.
